The AA Preamble
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
OH! THAT AGAIN?
Alcoholics Anonymous is a group, millions of People
Reaching toward me, out from themselves
Saying in one great chorus: "Come with US!"
And so I reached my own arms out, grabbed a hand
And found a seat on the bus
Many years we soberly drove
Down and up the Steps
Of which there still are twelve
When did I decide to shelve
These gems, my way of life?
Riding the rear of this caravan
No fun for this active man
So as I make my way up front
To grab onto hands out-held
I feel an unwanted separation
Are the hands I'm holding the slippery ones?
Or are those my own self-oiled, well-oiled palms
Which are causing me to lose the grip
Ah! I caught on to a sleeve
Just as it's about to rip
The Jersey is numbered 4
Why could it not be more?
Because AA Step number 4
AGAIN? Is such a bore (really not!)
Did it once before!
And actually, this is where it starts for REAL!
Because "One, Two, Three, you're OUT!"
Is what many of us get to re-feel
And I, when or if into a funk, recall
This is how peeps get drunk! That's all!
