METAMORPHOSIS

CHANGE...OR NOT?
Following taken from:
The Song of the Bird,
by Anthony De Mello
"Don't Change" page 67.

DON'T CHANGE

I was a neurotic for years. I was anxious and depressed and totally self-centered. Peeps kept telling me to change.

I resented them. But I agreed with them. And I wanted to change, but simply could not, no matter how hard I tried.

What hurt the most was that, like the others, my best friend kept insisting that I change. So I felt powerless and trapped.

Then one day she said to me, "Don't change. I love you just the way you are."

Those words were music to my ears:  "Don't change. Don't change. Don't change...I love you as you are."

I relaxed.  I came alive. And, ya know what?  Suddenly I changed!

NOW I know that I could not really change until I found someone who would love me whether I changed or not.

Is this how YOU love me, God?

Well, yes, and no...

more important than whether it's yes or no, is the why.

just kidding Steve, but if you don't think its funny maybe you can find some solace that this could be the comment that ruined everything and sealed my fate

I have been making lots of changes lately. Necessary ones that will enhance health and happiness.

If things are not well in my experience, I need to change. I feel like I an stating the obvious here.

How true! When I was trying to stop smoking, someone said, "Just accept that you do" and then I was able to stop.

I'm not sure if I've changed or just become the *me* that I was created to be before all the layers of crap. Makes me think...

Good point today, Steve. Finally accepting who we are and being accepted by others before we are willing to change....

I've learned that I can't change another so I must accept them the way that they are. And for those closest to me, I do love them the way that they are.

I believe that God loves me unconditionally: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I also think if I want people to accept me just as I am, I need to return the favor.
