PERSISTENCE? OR INSANITY!

A post like this one I really enjoy writing because it validates my desire, and reinforces my will to follow through on a weight loss plan--my own. Today, Thursday is day 2 of fasting--no food. It is the only way I have been successful in dropping 30 pounds in 30 days.

Seven years ago I weighed 260 pounds (118 kg) and a doctor urged me to drop some weight. In seven weeks (49 days) I lost 57 pounds (26 kg). And I felt better than ever before--at age 70. The methodology here was "Do not eat--anything, not even one bite of solid food.."

A product at that time, sold only by doctors was/is named MEDIFAST. Now it is available on-line.  I liked the shakes so much...naturally only the flavorful Dutch Chocolate, but from day one I limited myself to five shakes per day.  At 110 calories each, I consumed for those 7 weeks 550 calories every day, no more--no less.

Copious amounts of water is essential to the process of quick weight loss. I mean LOTS of water!

OK, now, today:  I weighed myself last night and I came in at 235 pounds. It did not accumulate from beer guzzling! It IS Dulce de leche and HERSHEY BARS.  So I have added quite a bit of heaviness, and some of it will not fit into my trousers...or shirts. Handwriting on the wall says, "OK Steve, time to DO-IT. Get busy"  And so today is my second day of fasting. I will let you know from time to time how it is working. My goal: 30 pounds in 30 days. And it will be done!

We're driving to the International Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous June 27, the event is July 1-4. And I refuse to buy pants and shirts just to look sporty in front of--or behind--50,000 Peeps. Besides, with 30 fewer pounds to carry around, I will HAVE to feel better.

I hope this was not too boring. Well, I became a little bored also, writing this. But I stayed sober!

LOL...Good luck! Is this really healthy? I am too small and cant fast even for church...I am the person who needs to eat everything in sight...So I dont know too much to respond on this topic! But I have heard of people doing this and it worked for them and has you as well in the past!

i lost about 50 pounds several years ago...cutting sweets and sodas was a big kick...not eating anything though sounds painful...

Brian, it is painful for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days. After that it seems normal. Just a drag to remember to not eat when with others...

I have a friend that does the Medifast. He likes the fast results. I have my health concerns but know that you value yourself, and you won't put yourself in harms way. Good luck! (remember us girls like a few curves on the guys too!)

The doctor (in the past) insisted on a weekly blood test, do not remember what for, it was one necessary item missing in Medifast...maybe potassium? Anyway, without a doctor, I cheat for that reason, and have a banana every day! I'm just writing this in case someone out there is foolish enough (like me?) to try this. Thanks for your input!!

weight loss, good idea although i have no idea how tall you are--did you say? the only thing i know about this fasting program-i have never done it-is that it is very veery hard on kidneys so beware...otherwise, i would think with plenty of water and you do take some supplements i assume, minerals for instance? well, you know more than i about it...take care, i don't want to lose you.

It might be good to check with a nutritionist because there are dangers with the liquid only diet. I have a friend who did his through a weight management center at a hospital and he told me that careful monitoring was necessary before, during and after.

Not boring at all! In one of her posts, Her Big Sad said something about "Let go, let God and head to the pantry..." that's me! And right now I have dulche de leche (I think it's a south florida thing) AND ALL the bags of HERSHEY'S eggs (you know the little ones in pastel foil wrappers?) I could buy up at Easter time (I think there are 4 bags left...). My personal trainer now has me logging my food on sparkpeople.com. Neat site, after you're done with the "Survivor diet" lol, you should check it out.
I did the "lemonade diet"/"Master Cleanse" for 14 days... you can Google it... but you're right about watching other people eat, that's the hard part.
I wish you SUCCESS in your weight-goal endeavors!!! I know it is HARD work... just picture yourself walking into the meeting in July looking hot! :)

Not only that, but I also think you are handling marriage well.

eeeew- that sounds harder than it would have been for me 6 years ago to not drink on float trips, or on the weekends, or when I was watching TV or when I went to the pool, or when we were grilling out, or when.....

Way to go! I've learned that fasting puts your body in crisis mode and then it gains more than before when you start to eat again! I tried a diet (for cleansing - but will take off weight too) known as "The Lemonade diet" or "The Master Cleanse". You can probably find it on line. Pure water, fresh lemon juice and Grade A dark maple syrup. I had only that for 10 days - lots of energy, felt great. Went hiking all day on day 7. The lemon cleans and the maple supplies enough energy, they both nourish. Very positive experience! This cleanse/diet has been around for about 50 years.

Wishing you the best in your process. Sounds like you know what works for you and that you have the determination to stick with it! Be well :) Heck, these days every food carries a hazard with it and it seems like becoming a hydro and air-itarian might be the safest diet anyway, with the use of heavy duty filtration systems!

Steveroni, this is a nice blog. I really didn't know what to expect because I am not familiar with your writings. But after reading a few post I am convinced that you are excellent.

Mad props on losing the excess weight and your most positive approach. There is no question in my mind that you have the proper attitude in order to accomplish your mission.

I have always heard that walking and drinking plenty water leads to quick results, myself.

Ah the diet thing. Yes, what is the difference between persistence and insanity? Well, as long as we are losing weight in a moderate fashion.... maybe?
