FRIDAY...ADVICE WITHOUT CONSENT

"Advice is like snow --- the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind." - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Blog Guide:
Blg means 'Short' post
Blog means 'Sensible-length' post
Blong means 'Pour yourself a tall, non-alcoholic drink before you read this one.'

THE WORTH OF MY ADVICE--A Blg

Drunk or sober, age 2 or age 72, working or not working, in sickness and good health, I have ALWAYS enjoyed giving you advice, especially when you did not seek it. Often when you did not even NEED it. Even more so when I was ignorant of a few major facts surrounding what I perceived as a great problem of yours.

Little by little, I'm being oh, so slowly relieved of a few of my defective characteristics. But that IS happening! And I AM continuing to learn. I am learning that when snow is called for, I must let it drop slowly and softly. So that it dwells long upon the place beneath. So that it sinks into the mind.

I can never, ever, 'convince' anyone they should stop drinking. Read on page 63 in our beautiful Big Book: "Being convinced, we were at Step Three..."

I had to be convinced myself, or let my Higher Power have another "go" at it. Thank all of you blogger regulars--and all the members of my home group--for helping me "stay convinced".

At this time, I am SO very grateful, that you don't even want to HEAR about it!

NOTE: Hey, youse guys...there's a 'new' blogger
Big JENN (I call her Jenn 2) in our midst.
You will certainly enhance your 'living experience' by reading her, and please comment, so she gets to know us. You'll see, steveroni does NOT lead you astray in matters of this magnitude! "...you'll thank me later!"

nope, you will only do what you do when you WANT to and are good and ready. wouldn't life be just soooo much easier if that weren't the case. but then again, i think we'd end up being a bunch of robots. not my idea of fun either.

It is so very hard not to give advice, especially when one knows it all. Like me.

Your blogs and posts convince me (secondarily) that I'm on the right path...

I may not always take the advise of others with the Love intended when they give it (my alcoholism creates such havoc and chaos) but when something has affected me so much that I dwell on it, I know if I look at it in Truth it allows HUGE growth and an even greater Spiriutal Connection.

Before the program I just blamed, raged and isolated... now I get the purpose of the life I'm living... and I pray every day that God can and will continue to use me for his Greater Purpose!

Thanks advise-a-roni for carrying God so gently!

I found before I went to Al-Anon that I couldn't convince my wife to stop drinking. I gave up. And moved on. And that's when I felt lost. God brought me to Al-Anon and Al-Anon brought me to God.

I too had to be convinced that I actually NEEDED to stop drinking. That IS when I got to Step 3. That IS when I had a spiritual awakening.
That IS when I stopped drinking.

Thank you for telling people to check me out, it is wonderful to recieve so much love and support. I have to confess that the counselors I worked with used the term "congruent" often when discussing clients. I honestly don't know if I've used it correctly or not! Guess I'll have to look it up and see, then we'll both know! Thanks again.
I know that it's a fact that people do not get sober until they are ready and you or I may be lucky enough to be around if they decide to.Otherwise we have nothing to do with it, it's between them and God.
By the way I'm 6' tall hence the "big".

Oh yeah.... I was told many things, many times intended to help me.... intended to guide me in the right direction. The problem was, until the message came fro God Himself in a way that I could recevive it, I was not ready to listen.

Today I try to the best of my ability to listen when He tells me something.

Thanks for sharin'!
