A SAD "55" THIS FRIDAY

Drew was a good soldier
So proud
So sober
So spiritual
So sad
Ave Maria University Oratory
Mourning in morning
We who stay
To help others
Along their sober way

Asleep in his car
Note in his lap
To express a final goodbye
To his friends, his Peeps.
Sleep in peace now my friend...Drew

Flash Fiction Friday 55
is a story written in exactly 55 words.
Let the G-Man know if you write one
and read the ones of your fellow writers.

 ______________________________________________________________

About a year ago I was Drew's AA sponsor
for several months before he "resigned" from
Alcoholics Anonymous--again.

All too often during moments like these today I hear the truth, "Drew died so that many others will live."  We see in illumination what happens when we forget to be humble, forget to be patient, tolerant, forgiving, forget to WORK the steps, forget that God is God...not ME...and forget that we cannot have the first drink, or that insatiable craving will immediately kick in.

Thank you for your prayers for ALL of us Peeps, let us stay sober, and pray for each other. Please!

Peace, and Love, Peeps, to ALL of you!

Steve--color me "pensive".

I'm sorry to hear we lost another one. It is a fatal, progressive disease...but we have a found a remedy! My heart and prayers go out to Drews family and friends, and to you Steve. A very sad 55.

I am so sorry to hear about this loss, how sad it must be for all. There are way to many Drews out there. My sister in law lost her life from alcohol. She was not patient, tolerant, nor took the steps.
May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with him and family, friends and you.
God bless

Oh how grateful I am to God for my sobriety. "There but for the grace of God go I" where Drew has gone.

I pray for Drew and those who loved him.

I was struck by the simplicity and beauty of the coffin. The same simplicity and beauty of AA. So sad when this is the end, we all have choices.

Steve,

I am sure it was with a very heavy heart that you penned your 55, but I am so very glad you did. As a newbie in recovery the reminders about the damage that first drink will do can never come too often ~ it is just a shame that this is the reminder for today.

I am so grateful for my sobriety today and look forward to another 24 tomorrow. I am trudging the road beside you, my friend.

How wretched you feel comes through the 55. Lost three of ours to alcoholism/suicide this year, one just this week. We have to take this disease seriously, and commit 100 percent to recovery, or we too could die of a broken heart.

((Hugs))I'm so sorry to hear this dear friend. It's a grim reminder we can never let up our guard with this cunning disease. All we can do is keep hoping and praying some day stories like this will be a thing of the past. (Hugs)Indigo

I love what Father Martin said about how to help another alcoholic. He said it is the right words, at the right time, spoken by the right person. When asked what were those words, He said that God knows and He isn't telling.

It feels to me that a spark goes from my heart to someone else's. May we continue to be blessed to carry the spark.

What a terrible addiction!
Don't take this too personally, he chose the path he walked down!
You can point the way, but others chose their own direction. Excellent 55, and have a Wonderful Week-End...Galen

Oh, no. What a brave and sad 55; Steve, thank you for this tribute to Drew, and reminder for all of us.

Here in Ireland this week has been all school closings and fireworks for Halloween; of course it used to be our new year. Tomorrow at the bonfire I'll be wishing you and all your comrades in AA a strong, joyful, peaceful, and brighter year to come.
